Dr. Matthew Popa

Dr. Popa is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship-trained in adult total joint reconstruction. While he provides care for a wide range of orthopaedic patients, his main area of specialty is both non-operative and operative treatment of hip and knee pain. Dr. Popa works to incorporate nutrition and lifestyle changes with medical and surgical treatments to improve a patient’s quality of life.

Education:

  • Undergraduate: Harvard University, cum laude in chemistry and physics

  • Medical school: Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine

  • Residency: Grand Rapids Medical Education Partnership/Michigan State University

  • Fellowship: University Hospitals Case Medical Center Adult Reconstruction and Total Joint Fellowship

Personal Interests

Dr. Popa is married with five children. He enjoys spending much of his free time with his family. He plays soccer regularly and he enjoys posting F3, taking part in peer-led workouts for men that focus on fitness, fellowship, and faith.

Jason Coggins, PA-C

Jason is a 2005 graduate of the Duke University Physician Assistant Program where he earned a Master of Health Science degree. He also holds a Master of Science in Athletic Training from West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from East Carolina University.

He is licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, North Carolina Association of Physician Assistants, and Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery.

Since 2005, he has practiced as a physician assistant in orthopedic trauma, general orthopedics, and sports medicine.
